Shame is a two way street.

Some survivors of childhood abuse and the dysfunctional family system constantly live in self doubt making being right (asserting oneself) during conflict impossible.

Other survivors can’t tolerate being wrong and overpower.

Many survivors are paired with their opposite, meaning those who can’t assert are usually partnered with those who overpower.

Doing real work in therapy is about finding our hearts in the matter. Those who can’t be right need self love. Those who can’t be wrong need to stop confusing being wrong with being worthless.
